This sunset wedding took place at Lower River Terrace, Lawn 1 at Kangaroo Point with the iconic backdrop of the Brisbane River and the city as the sun began to set.
Lower River Terrace Lawns are located at the foot of the iconic Kangaroo Point Cliffs.

This savvy couple directly booked this lawn for their exclusive use through Brisbane City Council. By booking the lawn directly through the council, you have access to choose from our full ceremony decor collection, set up immaculately by Brisbane’s experienced wedding ceremony styling experts on the day.
With Love – Brisbane Wedding Decorators had the pleasure of styling this beautiful ceremony, and we’re excited to share the details of this special day.

As the sun began to set between the city’s skyscrapers, beautiful golden light filled the ceremony space adding to the magic of this setting.
A Ceremony Designed for Guest Comfort and Connection
The happy couple put their guests’ comfort first, ensuring there was a seat for every guest. Instead of having the chairs in straight rows, they requested we place our elegant white americana chairs in curved, semi-circular rows.

My phone photos above show how this thoughtful layout made the ceremony feel intimate and inclusive, and allowed every guest to have a perfect view.

Elegant Decor and Floral Touches
To frame the couple perfectly against the sunset, we styled their ceremony with our glossy white acrylic plinths, which were topped with romantic blooms by their Florist.

A Unique Entrance for the Couple
Another unique highlight of this sunset wedding was the couple’s entrance. Instead of the traditional walk from behind the guests, the couple arrived together from the lawn beside of the ceremony lawn. This meant guests could watch their arrival from the front, creating a beautiful, shared moment and some truly stunning photos as the couple walked hand-in-hand towards their ceremony.

The adjoining lawn has a lovely entry, beautifully manicured and maintained by the council. Shout out to our friend Harry and his team who do a wonderful job and take so much pride in maintaining this area. The bride and groom arrived together via this lawn which worked absolutely perfectly for this ceremony configuration.

A Thoughtful Twist on the Classic River Backdrop
Originally, the couple had opted for us to setup their ceremony with guests facing the river. However, after a site visit the day before around the same time as the weddings 4pm ceremony start time, the couple decided to shift the setup to be side-on to the river. This thoughtful adjustment was decided upon, so most guests weren’t squinting into the sun’s glare, allowing everyone to fully appreciate the golden hour glow in comfort as the ceremony took place.

This set up also enabled the Photographer access to capture some great photos from behind the ceremony.

Congratulations again to our lovely newlyweds!
Top Tips for Couples Planning a Kangaroo Point Wedding
1. Book professionals directly – For the best experience, we recommend booking your favourite Lower River Terrace lawn directly through Brisbane City Council and engaging our expert wedding styling and setup services (or the Stylist of your choice).
While there are local venues that offer to book the lawn and provide a ceremony setup for you, these packages often come at a premium rate and with their speciality being a venue (not ceremony styling), they may not deliver the level of styling and attention to detail you deserve. By booking the lawn yourself and choosing a dedicated professional styling team, you’ll enjoy a wider selection of decor options, beautifully presented with clean seats in neat rows, tailored to your choice of backdrop.
This approach is not only more cost-effective, but also ensures your ceremony space is styled to the highest standard, without compromising on quality or choice.
2. Consider the Sun – For mid-late afternoon weddings, where the sun is setting over the river, consider the comfort of guests. If you would prefer the river backdrop but have concerns about the sun glare, perhaps you could treat guests to heart sunglasses placed on their chairs on arrival.
Alternatively, morning ceremonies followed by lunch time reception celebrations are a lovely option and sun glare isn’t a factor.
3. Nearby Reception Venues – If you’re looking for Kangaroo Point reception venues, close to Lower River Terrace?
Within walking distance:
Joeys – Directly above the Lower River Terrace Riverfront lawns via an admittedly steep set of stairs (or a very short drive or Uber if the steps are a little much) is Joeys where the spectacular views continue from the top of the cliff.
Medley – Alternatively, around the corner on the other side of Kangaroo Point is the lovely Medley restaurant. This riverside dining destination is known for its global cuisine, scenic views, and relaxed atmosphere. It’s also a wheelchair friendly wedding venue.
Fun idea – A previous wedding we styled at this Lower River Terrace lawn, held their reception at Medley and booked several ‘Pedi-cabs’ to escort guests that needed a little assistance with the journey, adding the fun element of a scenic river cycle.
Eagle Street Pier & Brisbane City Restaurants – Alternatively, now that the Kangaroo Point Bridge is open, it’s now an easy walk across the pedestrian bridge to reach your favourite restaurant on Eagle Street or in Brisbane City.
If you’re planning your own Brisbane wedding and want a ceremony setup that’s as beautiful as it is comfortable and set up impeccably by Brisbane’s most highly rated Wedding Stylists, our team at With Love – Brisbane Wedding Decorators would be so happy to help bring your vision to life.
